Google Search Console Now Tracks How Your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube Content Performs in Search

If you have been treating your social content and your SEO strategy as two separate lanes, Google just gave you a good reason to merge them.

Google Search Console has rolled out a new property type called platform properties, and it changes how founders can track content performance. For the first time, you can verify your Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube accounts directly inside Search Console and see how those posts are actually performing in Google Search and Discover, not just on the platforms themselves.

What’s Actually New Here

Google has offered glimpses of social performance data before, but this update pushes it further. Platform property data now flows into three places founders already check regularly:

  • Performance report: Total clicks, impressions, and the specific search queries driving traffic to your social posts. You can filter by post and export the data if you prefer working in your own dashboards.
  • Insights report: A snapshot of your recent traffic trends, your best-performing posts, and how people are actually finding your account through Google.
  • Achievements: Milestone tracking, like crossing a new threshold of clicks from Google Search over a rolling 28-day period.

According to Google’s own announcement, the goal is to help creators and site owners understand exactly which search terms are leading people to their social and video content, and how their audience engages with it once they get there, a detail confirmed in Google’s developer blog post.

How to Set It Up

Getting your accounts connected takes a few steps:

  1. Open Google Search Console.
  2. Go to the verification page, or use the property selector dropdown and click “Add property.”
  3. Choose one of the four supported platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to securely authorize the connection.

Worth noting: Google says the rollout is gradual, so if you do not see the option to add a platform property yet, that is expected. It should appear over the coming weeks.

Why This Matters for Founders

Most early-stage teams treat social media and organic search as separate budgets, separate strategies, and often separate people. This update is Google’s way of saying that line is blurring. If your TikTok or YouTube content is already ranking in search results (and a lot of it is, especially for younger audiences who search on these platforms directly) you now have a native way to measure that performance instead of guessing.

For founders running lean marketing teams, this is a genuine efficiency win. You get one less dashboard to check, real query-level data on what is pulling people from Google into your social content, and an early signal on which platform is actually contributing to your search visibility, not just your follower count.

This is not the first time Google has experimented with this kind of visibility. As reported by Search Engine Roundtable, which broke the news, Google briefly published and then pulled a help document referencing platform properties a few weeks before this official rollout, suggesting the feature was already in testing behind the scenes.

The Bottom Line

If you are running paid or organic campaigns across Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube, verifying these as platform properties in Search Console should go on your to-do list this month. It costs nothing to set up, and it closes a visibility gap that most growth teams have been flying blind on for years: knowing whether your social content is actually earning you search traffic, or just likes.
